Obtaining a death certificate

When the inquest has concluded, you will be able to get the final death certificate.

The court staff register the death for you using the information from the inquest hearing.  You do not have to go to the Registrar’s Office.

Please wait 10 days after the conclusion of the inquest to allow time for the information to be entered in the register.  You can then phone the Registrar’s Office and order certificates to be sent out to you by post.  There is a charge of £11.00 per certificate, which you can pay by debit card on the phone.  You can also send in a cheque if you prefer.
